Please be sure to share this with all of your athletes and parents
1. Make sure when your athletes are on their horses they have their numbers visible on the backs...duck tape etc is ok as
long as their #'s can be seen.
2. No athletes can be in motels or camping alone even if they are 18...they must have an adult in the motel or camp with
them. An adult is a parent, coach or designated chaperone.
3. Remind everyone about the OSU Demo & social on Saturday night.
4. The times listed on class sheets are only appox. times. The only guaranteed time is what time we start each morning.
5. Stalls need to be cleaned & swept before you leave.
6. NO DOGS allowed in the barns or arenas, they need to be kept in your cars or in your RV.
7. HELMETS must be worn anytime you are on your horse or driving your horse...THIS INCLUDES any practice or fun ride when
you are home...NOT just when you are at the meet.
8. Only the registered coach/advisor can change, add or scratch an athlete.
9. Make sure your team shows up for the designated work schedule.
10. Do not approach the judges if you have an issue contact Denise John or Wendy Bernards and they will make an appointment
for you at the judges discretion.
11. Good Sportsmanship is not the exception we expect to be the NORM!
12. Have fun!

Hi,
As we get ready for our first meet I just wanted to remind everyone to make sure their horses are ready for competition.
As most of your are aware there has been a couple of cases of Strangles in the Eugene area. To the best of our knowledge
these cases were isolated and have not spread. I do know that the facility did work with a veterinarian and feel comfortable
that they contained this and they are moving forward with their scheduled events.
That being said, I feel that all of us need to follow our vets recommendations on any vaccinations they feel your equine
partner should have prior to competition. If you have any questions, please contact your veterinarian for their advice.

I wanted to invite ten of your athletes to a free clinic on Jan 29 8-10 am at High Prairie Arena outside outside of Eugene.
It will be a horsemanship clinic focusing on the western and reining patterns for the 2012 OHSET season. It will be with
Nicole Renick. Please pass on this email to all athletes. If you would like to reserve a spot for this free clinic, please
email me back or call (541) 359-9501.

Hi,
A couple of questions have been asked regarding patterns..see the responses below:
In trail, the fan, set the outside rails at a 90 degree angle, then place the inside rails equal distance apart. This
distance is not marked on the pattern layout. You may want to make note of it the first time you set this up. K. Bragg
As far as "Degree of difficulty" in trail - There is no advantage/disadvantage regarding the seat an athlete chooses to
ride. The seat must be ridden correctly according to the rules of that seat. This has no relationship to working pairs where
there is a degree of difficulty score on the score sheet, and the rules regarding the use of western seat allow for two
hands on a curb. This is not an option under Western Horsemanship/Trail. K Bragg
The western vs. english question is going to vary depending on the go. Since both are allowed no rule would stress the
degree of difficulty, but I think judges expect the rider using two hands to have a little advantage so they might be judged
accordingly, but I think for the most part there is not going to be a big difference. J. Oswald

Hello Everyone.
Apparently, there was an incident this past weekend and some concerns about insurance, helmets, etc. I think there is still
some thinking from past groups about what was OK and what wasn't.
Remember, our rules and insurance govern OHSET events (not OHSET attire). So, helmets are required while riding or driving
at:
Any OHSET event
At any event raising funds for OHSET
At any event OHSET money was used to pay entry fees for
At any event that a coach or advisor said, "this is going to be our _______ practice;" as in cattle practice, gaming
practice, etc.
At any event where coaching from an OHSET coach is happening with OHSET athletes
While any ER Doc would tell you to wear your helmet when you ride at all times, OHSET does NOT require it:
When you are at an event not covered above, like a gaming play day or Open horse show
What athletes are wearing doesn't matter. Use common sense, if there is some question about if it's an OHSET event, error
toward wearing helmets. They can wear their garb anywhere, helmets or not.
Does this help?

Hi Everyone,
Champion Feed who has donated our year end buckles for the past several years will be doing a fund raiser to help pay for
the awards.
He will be selling some Kettle Chips. The proceeds will go toward our year end buckles. He is
posting a sign on them that indicates that.
It would be great if everyone could go in and purchase chips as well
as any feed or tack needs they may have. Please try to support Champion Feeds they have been a great sponsor of Willamette
District!
